Account Verification

The first thing you should do after opening a new account with a bookmaker – before depositing any money – is verify your identity.

Why Is This important?

Bookmakers in Australia have to follow money laundering laws which regulate who they can pay money to. If your account isn’t verified you’re not going to get paid.

By going through the verification process before you deposit you can remove the risk of getting funds tied up at the bookie.

How Do I Get Verified?

The good news is that, for most people, verification is really easy. In fact, in some cases it might even happen automatically.

The verification software that the bookies use has access to the electoral roll. So, if you are an Australian citizen and are registered to vote it should recognise you. You don’t have to do anything else.

If you aren’t automatically verified, don’t worry. You can usually meet the requirements by entering information such as your passport, drivers licence, or Medicare number.

What if the software won’t verify me?

For some people it will not be possible to get verified via the software. This might be because you are not an Australian citizen, or because you have recently moved house. If this is the case you will have to provide some certified documents. The most common documents are a copy of your passport and a recent bank statement.

There are a few ways to get the documents certified but the easiest is via a Justice of the Peace. This website shows when one will be available in your area.

Every bookie’s verification process is a little bit different, so read the terms & conditions and be sure that you have met them before making a deposit.

  1. A note for anyone who is here on a WHV, you may be entitled to a medicare card. You can use this to verify yourself.

You will need to take your visa entitlement letter, passport, and another form of ID plus your proof of address. For a proof of address you can take a bank statement or I believe you may be able to use your TFN letter, providing it has the same address as your bank account. If you are accepted they will then send out a card to the address you registered with. I am going through this process myself as I am from the UK and I will update as necessary. Hope this helps.

      1. Hi Fearny. I am also from the UK. Getting verified can be a bit more time consuming but it is usually pretty straightforward. Having the Medicare card will help as it can boost you up to the necessary 100 points, but you’ll still have to get your passport & bank statement verified. That is easy to do at the Justice of the Peace. They usually have a stall in most shopping malls once or twice a week, so you can do it when you are heading to Coles. Doesn’t take too long.

  2. Hi guys, I’m a UK citizen, been doing matched betting for 4 months now. As an adventure I want to travel to Australia and of course, exploit the bookies :). I have an uncle who lives in Perth too. Would be great if someone could advise me what to do to get verified. I think a travel visa allows me 3months in the country.

    1. Hi Pandora. You will have to set up an Aussie bank account and then take photocopies of your bank statement and passport to a post office or Justice of the Peace to get verified. It’s a pretty straightforward process.

  3. Hi! I am not an Australian citizen, I’m a just an exchange student here on a student visa. May i know what are the options for me to get verified? I’m just a little bit confused here. Is getting Medicare the only way to go? Thanks for your time

    1. With most bookies a copy of your bank statement and passport will be enough, but you will have to go to a post office or Justice of the Peace to get them verified. If you are entitled to a Medicare card it is worth getting one, but it is not always necessary.

      1. I was automatically verified. I’m Australian, so I assume from the electoral roll. When i first attempted a matched bet with Blubet, I registered with my address here in NSW and was knocked back for a bonus. I used Webchat to ask but was also knocked back.

I then found a VPN called OctaneVPN that lets you place your computer (IP address) in Brisbane. I joined Ladbrokes and Neds without any further issue. I did put my address in as a newly developed apartment rental from a Real Estate advertisement in Brisbane.

So far so Good! Love to know any thoughts or critique.

        1. Have you been automatically verified with Ladbrokes and Neds? Bear in mind that you may be asked to provide documentation confirming your address before you can make a withdrawal.

  4. HI there,
I am an Australian Citizen but living in NZ. Should I confirm my Australian citizenship with my current NZ address? Will it affect any chance of making withdrawals later?
    K

    1. Which state are you from in Aus?

You shouldn’t have any problems with the NZ address (assuming you have been there a while), but if you can verify using a QLD/TAS/ACT/NT address it would be better.

  5. I have had a betting agency freeze my account after only I bonus bet
as I put down another state that I resided
,they have asked me to verify my address that I supplied which was false
how do I go about withdrawing my money

    1. I think you may have some difficulty, but if you contact them with your correct address and provide ID they may release the funds. It is always best to verify before depositing so that you do not risk getting funds frozen.

  6. Hi newbie’s here, may i ask once i have signed up all 25 bookies on the ATM list, where can i track other bookies (for new deposit bonus) not on the ATM list?
