Value Betting

Place +EV bets to make long-term profits

Value betting, also known as +EV betting, is a strategy where you consistently place bets at odds that are higher than the true probability of an outcome. In simple terms, you’re backing overpriced bets. They won’t win every time, but over the long run, the maths is in your favour.

Bookmakers are constantly adjusting their odds based on team news, market movements, and betting volume — but they don’t always get it right. Sometimes a bookie is slow to react and offers odds that are out of line with the rest of the market. That’s where the value lies.

For example, if the true chance of a team winning is 50% (fair odds of $2.00), but a bookie is offering $2.20, that’s a value bet. It might lose on the day, but if you keep placing bets like that, your edge will show over time.

Unlike matched betting, value betting doesn’t rely on bonuses or promotions. That makes it ideal for accounts that have been promo-banned, and it also means value bets can be found all day, every day — across a wide range of sports and markets.

There’s more variance involved, and losing streaks are part of the process. But with good bankroll management, your long-term expected value will translate into real profits.

For serious bettors, value betting is the next logical step after matched betting. And with Bonusbank’s tools and data, you’ll be able to do it with confidence.

FAQs

What is a value bet?

A value bet is any bet where the bookmaker’s odds are higher than they should be based on the true probability of an outcome. These bets have a positive expected value (+EV), meaning the odds are in your favour. Over time, betting on +EV selections will lead to consistent profits. A simple example would be a bookie offering $3.00 on a coin toss. You won’t win every time, but the odds are much more generous than the 50% chance — making it a value bet.

Is this strategy risk-free?

No. Unlike matched betting, value betting involves variance. You’ll experience losing streaks, but if you consistently place +EV bets and manage your bankroll properly, you’ll be profitable in the long run.

How is this different from arbing?

Usually, one side of an arbitrage bet will also be a value bet. When we are arbing we will hedge that value bet using a second bet that is -EV. This reduces the overall value but locks in a guaranteed profit. With value betting we do not place the second bet, so we have a higher EV but no guarantees.

Can I use this on gubbed accounts?

Absolutely. Value betting doesn’t rely on promos or bonuses, so it’s ideal for promo-banned accounts. In fact, it’s one of the most effective ways to continue profiting from limited bookie accounts.

How do you calculate if a bet has a +EV?

We use a “wisdom of the crowd” approach. By collecting odds from multiple bookmakers, removing the built-in margin, and averaging the results, we get the fair odds. If a bookie is offering higher than those fair odds, it’s considered a value bet.

What is the difference between the value betting software and the value betting bot?

Our value betting software is built and maintained by Bonusbank. It scans 80+ Australian bookies and prioritises local sports like AFL and NRL, making it ideal for Aussie punters. The value bot on Discord is a third-party tool provided by BetHero. It covers more international leagues and markets but has less coverage of Australian bookies and sports. Many members use both tools together to find even more value.

What level of membership do i need for value betting?

All of our value betting tools are reserved for users on our Pro tier.
